What employability support do universities provide?

Swansea University employability prospects

If you’re reading this blog post, you’re probably somebody who is already interested in postgraduate study and is aware of the benefits a postgraduate degree can bring. We all know that a postgraduate degree can increase your knowledge, develop your skills to become an expert in your field, and boost your employability. But what level of support can you expect from your university?

What employability support do universities provide?

At Swansea University, our postgraduate students have access to a range of services that can help further increase their employability that we highly encourage everyone to take advantage of.

Here are just some examples of things you should look out for if you’re looking to accelerate your career progression after graduation.

Look for central teams, like The Swansea Employability Academy and our Centre for Academic Success, that offer services like CV and cover letter writing workshops, interview technique masterclasses, workshops that teach time-management and communication skills, and professional career advisors who offer one-to-one appointments to help you as an individual.

Don’t miss out when teams facilitate valuable events like career fairs, where you can meet different employers, learn about different companies in the industry, and discover what kind of workplace you resonate with and would like to have a career with in the future.

Regularly check a central hub or job board, like we have at Swansea University, where our students can find opportunities such as part-time work, work placements, internships, volunteer work and graduate schemes with prestigious partner organisations and leading companies.

Swansea also has the paid Student Ambassador Scheme, which is part-time work for the university and a great way to gain valuable experience, enhance your CV and represent the university at various events such as open days.
