21 Ways to Screw Up Your Postgraduate Degree

It's amazing how many students choose to screw up their degree, ( more than one in five to be precise) especially considering the thousands of pounds their paying just to attend .

Then make sure you avoid these 21 pitfalls at all costs:

  1. Skipping class - No matter how tired or hungover you are don't miss your lectures. Being late is one thing but skipping out on class all together is a recipe for disaster.
     
  2. Don't do the reading - Showing up to class isn't enough. To truly succeed you need to make time to do all required reading too.
     
  3. Plagiarizing - Ever heard of a little thing called Copyscape? Trust us, you're never going to get away with it!
     
  4. Bad time management  - Spending all weekend partying WILL LEAD TO CRAMMING!
     
  5. Ignoring your finances - Like splurging on that brand new iPad you've had your eye on when your student loan finally arrives.
     
  6. Procrastination - Putting off assignments and leaving everything to the last minute won't help you get a first, or a second, or probably even a third!
     
  7. Picking the wrong subject - Whatever you choose be sure it is something you really love.
     
  8. Falling asleep during lectures - Do you want a hot cocoa and blankie with that?
     
  9. Abusing the library - You won't find any other resource like it.
     
  10. Getting arrested - Studying will be the last thing on your mind if you manage to get yourself banged up.
     
  11. Being glued to your Xbox - If your hands are permanently disfigured then enough's enough!
     
  12. Eating crap - Sorry, fast food and ready meals don't constitute as food.
     
  13. Forgetting to apply for your bursary - Ummm duh... now you're not entitled to moan about being skint.
     
  14. Not asking for help - It's OK to ask for help every once in a while. We all need a little support sometimes.
     
  15. Letting the dog eat your homework (again) - Damn that dog why is it always so hungry for university assignments.
     
  16. Unleashing the beast - Flipping out when you don't get the grade you want isn't cool man.
     
  17. Not pressing save - Once you know what it feels like to lose hours of hard work you'll be making backups of your backups, just to be on the safe side.
     
  18. Being a quitter  - Yeah you probably won't make it anyway
  19. Sleeping with your classmates - Awkward...
     
  20. Sleeping with your tutor - It doesn't really need an explanation does it?
     
  21. Having a massive EGO   - Just because you got a first in your undergraduate degree doesn't mean you're gonna fly through your postgrad .
