Do you want to study a Master’s in human resource management? Our International Human Resource Management course is recognised and approved by the CIPD and is ideal for those either working or wanting to work at a strategic level in HR and gain a university Masters and a membership outcome from CIPD.
This full and part-time Master’s course is ideal for those pursuing a career in HR, as, upon successful completion of this course you will gain CIPD Associate membership and be eligible to upgrade to CIPD Chartered Member depending on your applied experience and you being in active CIPD membership.
What's covered in the course?
The experienced teaching team combines real work experience of human resource management with academic qualifications, bringing a strategic and conceptual view to the topics covered. Sessions are interactive and we encourage you to work together on case studies, and incorporate role-playing activities to develop practical HR skills. We invite guest speakers to deliver on relevant modules. Where appropriate to the individual topics covered during the course, implications for sustainability will be identified that relate to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
On completion of this course you will be able to make a valuable contribution within the HR field of management in your current or future workplace, having acquired both the core knowledge and the necessary skills to deliver excellence professionally and with the ability to act in the role of strategic partner.
In keeping with these aims, you will possess the knowledge towards CIPD Chartered membership with the CIPD, which is the most widely-recognised professional body in the field of HR. On successful completion you will gain Associate CIPD membership with the eligibility to upgrade to Chartered CIPD membership depending on your professional experience and you being in active membership.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will have developed critical understanding of the international context of organisations and the implications for HRM. You will explore the contexts in which HR operates and the impact which internationalisation both strategically and at the level of specific HR practices. In particular, managing and leading expatriates.
Throughout the course you will be asked to reflect on your personal and professional development as an aid to demonstrating the core knowledge and behaviours required to gain organisational commitment and support from stakeholders.
Professional Placement option This course offers an optional professional placement. This allows you to spend 20 weeks with an employer, following completion of your taught modules, and is a great way to enhance your employability.
The experience you gain through your placement will allow you to evidence your professional skills, attitudes and behaviours at the point of entry to the postgraduate job market.
If you choose the placement option, you will be responsible for finding and securing a suitable placement to complement your chosen area of study. You will be able to draw on the University’s extensive network of local, regional and national employers, and the support of our Careers teams. If you do not secure a suitable placement, you will automatically be transferred back to the standard, non-placement version of the course.
Please note: Placements will only be confirmed following a competitive, employer-led selection process. As such, the University will not be able to guarantee placements for students who have registered for the professional placement option.

Summary
Want to qualify professionally with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development? Study an International Human Resource Management course at a fully-accredited CIPD centre with Birmingham City Business School.
Our Postgraduate Diploma in International Human Resource Management programme is ideal if you want to qualify professionally with the CIPD.
If you wish to engage with this course part-time, the modules will run in the afternoon and evening over two years for the PG Diploma in International HRM stage, with an additional optional third year (part-time) for the MA in International HRM. For some sessions, full-time and part-time cohorts will be taught together, allowing you to the opportunity to share experiences with both UK-based and international students to incorporate a global perspective to HR issues.
By successfully completing the course part-time you will meet the requirements of the CIPD Profession Map and its core knowledge and behaviour standards at chartered level membership.
