UK is experiencing increased interest in health programmes

University of AberdeenThere is currently an increasing interest in health and associated factors such as fitness and nutrition, and this is being reflected in the launch of new degree programmes in this subject matter at a number of universities throughout the UK.

The University of Aberdeen has just launched a postgraduate programme in health economics – which is actually the first master’s programme in this subject in Scotland.

Head of Economics at the University of Aberdeen, Dr John Skatun, says, “Economics is often defined as the study of the allocation of scare resources. The application of economics to health and health care is therefore increasingly being recognised as a primary policy tool. It provides governmental and local decision makers with a set of criteria that seeks to achieve the best possible outcome for a given level of resource. There is hardly an area of Health Services Research where economics has not been applied or where it has not provided significant recommendations.” There are also studentships available for students taking this new MSc programme worth £3,000 for full-time UK and EU students.

Other universities throughout the United Kingdom are also expanding their health-related postgraduate programmes in line with the current trend in health, fitness and nutrition awareness and the growth in related professions.

The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Southampton is offering an ever-growing selection of health-related postgraduate programmes tailor-made to advance and enhance careers in this field.

Meanwhile the University of Birmingham is offering a new masters programme concentrating on the expanding area of health technology as part of its Masters in Public Health postgraduate programme.

If you are interested in pursuing or developing your career in health or in related fields, then you should do some research into the options available to you as there is guaranteed to be a course to suit your needs.
