The course provides teachers and others working within the sector the opportunity to refresh their own visual arts practice against the 'real world' contexts of contemporary art and culture; it enables participants to critically examine and evaluate models of art educational practice and pedagogy in historical and contemporary contexts including curriculum for excellence; the masters artist teacher course helps develop a community of practice which is both sustainable and supportive and which is driven ultimately by the challenges faced by art and design teachers in the 21st Century.

Entry requirements

Applicants must satisfy the specific admission requirements for Masters programmes offered by University of the West of Scotland and should normally hold an undergraduate degree in a related discipline.

Exceptions may be made in the case of applicants who can demonstrate significant relevant experience together with recent academic study.

English Language Requirements
Overseas students must meet UWS English language requirements.


Modules include: Visual arts practice I; critical contexts I; critical pedagogy I; visual arts practice II; critical contexts II; critical pedagogy II; artist teacher dissertation and exhibition.
