Our PhD in Critical Theory and Cultural Studies benefits from the interdisciplinary research and international perspectives of our staff and students. We have a vibrant cosmopolitan student community and much of our work is guided by a transnational and transcultural agenda.
The department draws upon the following staff expertise:
political philosophy and politics
feminist, queer and gender studies
cultural, literary, media and visual studies
postcolonial, sensory, science and technology studies.
As well as support from the Department of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies, you will have access to the University of Nottingham Researcher Academy. This will provide you with an additional network of researchers and staff to support you during your PhD, as well as training, placement and travel opportunities.
The University of Nottingham is one of eight universities making up the AHRC-funded Midlands4Cities Doctoral Training Partnership (M4C). The partnership provides funding and training to support the professional and personal development of the next generation of arts and humanities doctoral researchers.

2.1 (or international equivalent) in an arts, humanities or social science subject. For PhD level study, applicants are usually expected to hold, or be working towards a Master's degree in a relevant subject. English language requirements: IELTS 7.0 (no less than 6.5 in any element).
