Landscape Architecture at the University of Huddersfield occupies a unique position within the School of Art, Design and Architecture. The MLA forms part of a suite of programmes in the Architecture and the Built Environment, including the RIBA validated Master of Architecture, Advanced Architectural Design MA and Advanced Project Management in Construction MSc.
The course will focus on a creative design environment through the development of speculative and imaginative landscape ideas set within an ethical framework; it will combine a commitment to the arts alongside an emphasis on cutting edge technologies
Across the programme candidates are involved in a rigorous curriculum, including advanced skills and knowledge in: design, history, theory, professional practice, technology, ecology, sustainability, horticulture, drawing, digital modelling and representation. The educational aims of the programme are:
To provide an environment of creative and imaginative landscape architecture education;
To develop skills and knowledge of landscape architecture in open parks as well as cities;
To introduce to and advance students through the technical, professional, theoretical and design aspects of landscape architecture practice;
To provide students who already have a suitable degree, a foundation of Landscape Architecture education from which they can become exceptional landscape architects;
To form part of the requirements for students to become professional and Landscape Institute Chartered Landscape Architects
