Summary

This programme allows you to engage with some of the greatest global challenges of our times. Throughout the programme you will receive a thorough education, from our internationally-recognised scholars. Drawing on the particular interdisciplinary strengths of the University’s Penryn Politics team, this programme focusses on change and uncertainty in contemporary global systems and covers issues such as: international politics of migration; populism and challenges for democracy; rising powers; climate change; human security; environmental change and controversies; political power and violence; feminist politics; political communication, activism and strategy. You can also undertake a work-based project module in Strategic Political Communication.

You’ll benefit from accessible staff, and world-leading interdisciplinary research and teaching from a Top 100 Politics department (QS World University Rankings 2019). Our MA Global Politics is an intellectually challenging and career-oriented programme. It unites the world-class resources of the University of Exeter with the particular strengths in critical interdisciplinary research and teaching at our stunning Penryn Campus.

If you don’t have a first degree in Politics we can support you in an optional module (Foundation Study in Politics) which enables you to establish foundational knowledge in a particular area you want to specialise in for your dissertation project.

The campus is situated in the environmentally beautiful and politically complex setting of west Cornwall. It offers the very best in learning and teaching facilities, with lecture theatres and seminar rooms equipped with the latest technologies. The campus is shared with the University of Falmouth, which creates a vibrant mixture of students from science, engineering, humanities and arts backgrounds, both on campus and in the local area.

Employability
Our MA Global Politics will be of particular interest to students looking for careers, further postgraduate training or serious volunteer commitment in areas such as: political research; communication or activism at any level; governance and policy making; international aid/development; international diplomacy or conflict resolution; or security studies.

The focus of the programme – on analysing political, social, geographic, and ecological change and uncertainty in complex, multi-faceted global environments – is particularly relevant to business, government, and non-profit sector employment, leaving our students prepared to tackle a wide range of contemporary challenges.

The Programme Director is Dr. Catherine Owen.
