- Examining development allows us to understand how change takes place from infancy to adulthood. Our course explores in-depth child and adolescent development. You'll explore development in different domains such as cognitive, social and emotional. The course provides a thorough understanding of the methodology, analysis, current research, and theory in the field of developmental psychology.
- Studying a range of modules unique to this course you will gain a broad understanding of developmental psychology. You'll be taught by a course team providing a global perspective. Each team member delivers teaching in an area related to their own area of research expertise, such as:

- You’ll gain an in-depth understanding of the latest theories, interventions, and applications of psychology relevant to working with children and adolescents. You will also conduct research using a range of techniques used to understand children’s behaviour and development.
- The School is equipped with two laboratories. In these labs you'll develop a deeper understanding of the psychology of child development.
- The Child Observation Suite provides a facility for the observation and understanding of children’s behaviour.
- The Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience lab enables a detailed examination of the brain and visual systems of young children and adolescents through a range of techniques, including eye tracking and electroencephalography (EEG).

Entry requirements | Applicants will hold at least 2:1 degree accredited by British Psychological Society, however, those with 2:2 degrees or who have studied a related subject are also encouraged to apply. The admissions policy of the School is to consider every applicant on their own individual merits therefore prospective students with a lower second class degree and a final year project and/or research methods and statistics grades at a higher level will be considered. |

Throughout this course you’ll explore a wide range of theories and topics relating to the psychology of child development. We’ll give you a thorough grounding in research methods and analytical skills so that you’ll gain the ability to carry out empirical research in this field. In addition, you’ll gain an in-depth understanding of the latest theories, interventions and applications of psychology relevant to working with children and adolescents across a range of settings.
You’ll have access to extensive laboratory facilities. The School has developed two outstanding laboratory complexes in which you can develop a deeper understanding of the psychology of child development. The Child Observation Suite (COS) provides a facility for the observation, recording, coding and understanding of children’s behaviour. The Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience (DCN) lab enables a detailed examination of the brain and visual systems of young children and adolescents through a range of techniques, including eye tracking and electroencephalography (EEG).

Students with a relevant lower second class honours degree, but showing a good final year performance, including a good quality dissertation/research project, will be considered on an individual basis. A minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent qualifications. A satisfactory Criminal records declaration (DBS/Disclosure Scotland) is required for this course |
