Summary
**This course gives you the perfect opportunity to strengthen your academic credentials in preparation for a career in Clinical Psychology and/or other professions in the area of mental health. It has been designed to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills in core theoretical, methodological, and empirical areas of Clinical Psychology.**
You’ll develop the knowledge, skills and experience needed for progression to the Doctor of Clinical Psychology (DClinPsych) courses which you’ll need to undertake if you aspire to take on a leading role in Clinical Psychology in the NHS, private practice or other related fields.

Entry requirements | Applicants should hold a 2:1 Honours Degree in Psychology or equivalent Psychology qualification recognised by British. Psychological Society as conferring Graduate Basis for Chartered members. IELTS: 6.5 with no component lower than 6.0. Two references: One academic and one work. In addition to the minimum entry requirements, all applicants are considered on their own merits and our decision to accept you onto the course will be based on meeting the essential criteria and your suitability for the course, as determined by your responses to the following issues: 1) Successful applicants should be able to demonstrate their interest in, and commitment to, a career in clinical psychology or a closely related field. In discussing this, you should communicate your suitability for this course, and what you are hoping to gain in the long-term from undertaking this MSc course. 2) As a team we value our students, not just in terms of academic ability, but in terms of your personal qualities. Please tell us which one of your personal qualities you believe would make you suited to work as a Clinical Psychologist, and why. Your application should also try to include reflection on any experiences that have relevance to clinical psychology such as relevant research you have undertaken or modules you have studied during your Undergraduate degree, or any voluntary or paid work in healthcare settings or charitable organisations ( e.g substance abuse or homeless charities, care homes, the Samaritans), You should reflect on and articulate any learning, insights and understanding gained from these experiences in relation to some aspect of clinical psychology, as well as what you have learned from your experiences about yourself (e.g., your own values, attitudes and beliefs) |

- There is currently no professional accreditation for Clinical Psychology at master’s degree level.
- However, this course has been informed by the undergraduate accreditation of our Clinical Psychology Courses (Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society) and the taught Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClin Psych). It is designed to enable you to progress between these two important levels of training, eventually leading to a career as a professional in psychology.

The reason for restricting entry to those with GBC is that the course is intended as a gateway to a doctoral training programme in clinical psychology, for which GBC is required. If you have a Lower Second Class honours degree in Psychology you may be considered for a place on the course providing you can demonstrate strengths in both Research Methods and Statistics, and clinical psychology or related subject areas. All applicants are considered on their own merits. A minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent qualifications. This course may involve you working with vulnerable groups of individuals, including children. In order to ensure that the University offers places on their programmes to suitable candidates you will be required to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance (formerly termed CRB). In your personal statement you should communicate your suitability for this course, and what you are hoping to gain in the long-term from undertaking this MSc course. It would be helpful also if you reflected on any work (voluntary or paid), research, and/or life experiences that have relevance to clinical psychology/mental health.
