Course overview - Are you a healthcare, emergency or urgent care professional who is considering venturing into the exciting and expanding field of Disaster Medicine? The MSc Disaster Medicine course expands the scope of your skills, enabling you to work as part of a disaster response team – delivering, planning and co-ordinating disaster and conflict healthcare.

Delivering healthcare to communities affected by disasters, be they natural or man-made, is an aspect of healthcare that is both demanding and immensely rewarding. This course will see you acquire the specific skills and expertise required to adapt and respond to the needs of communities when they are at their most vulnerable.

Designed by medical professionals with experience in disaster and conflict medicine, the course also provides you with the skills required to plan, manage and deliver a medical programme under challenging conditions, whilst also considering ethical, legal and logistical issues.

Entry requirements | Applicants admitted onto the course will meet the following requirements: Must hold a medically related qualification or have completed the penultimate year of a medical degree (e.g. intercalating medical students will have completed year 4 of a 5-year medical degree or year 3 of a 4-year medical degree) or relevant professional qualification for example as paramedic, ODP, nurse etc or have equivalent relevant experience e.g. from the armed forces. Have sufficient competency in English language (IELTS Level 6.5 or equivalent) Applicants without the standard entry requirements, but with relevant experience, such as those from the armed forces, may be considered. All suitable applicants may be interviewed. Interview procedures and decisions regarding applications will be conducted within the University’s policies on equal opportunities and admissions. |
