Summary

Course overview - Prepare for contemporary physiotherapy practice in the continually evolving Health and Social Care sector on our MSc in Physiotherapy (Pre-registration). Learn in the clinical environment from the first semester, make the essential link between theory and practice from day one, and secure more than 1,000 hours of clinical practice.

  • You’ll be taught in our purpose-built rehabilitation and assessment facilities, which include a therapy clinic and movement analysis laboratory.

  • The overarching course philosophy is to integrate academic and clinical learning, preparing you for the workplace by exploring content through case-based learning.

  • The course aims to develop leaders in contemporary physiotherapy practice. You’ll be an agent for change in service improvement and innovation - ready to influence the local, national and international health and wellbeing agenda. You’ll also be able to collaborate effectively with service users, carers, health professionals and other agencies as you work to provide high-quality healthcare.

Why study with us - A case-based learning approach integrates the course’s four core themes: competencies for physiotherapy, personal and professional development, society and public health, and research.

  • All of the core members of the teaching team are Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Physiotherapists and members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP). Staff who are specialists in a range of clinical and research areas bring current clinical practice, research-informed teaching and clinical research to life in your sessions.

  • Emphasis is placed on developing a range of professional knowledge, skills, values and behaviours that will enable you to meet the standards of proficiency for physiotherapists as outlined by the HCPC.

Further information - The structure of the course is innovative. There’s one module for each of the six semesters, with integrated part-time clinical placements for four of those six modules.

  • Approximately two thirds of the clinical placements are part-time (1-2 days per week).

  • There’s also a five-week, full-time elective placement towards the end of the course where you can choose your own clinical placement location.
