The Master of Studies (MSt) in Architecture (Degree Apprenticeship) provides an alternative to the traditional full time route to qualifying as an architect. Students must have completed ARB/RIBA Part I through a recognised degree course or apprenticeship. Students apply in their year-out through the architectural practice they are working for. The Cambridge course is taught in short two-week residential courses held throughout the year which mix Master Classes, Lectures, Supervisions, Seminars and Studio work. The lectures are taught by experts from inside the University and from elsewhere. The Master Classes are taught by leading practitioners in their particular fields. The result is a unique course that seeks to prepare the student for the rapidly changing world of professional practice in the 21st century.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the programme and completion of the End Point Assessment, successful students will have acquired all the skills and knowledge necessary to act as an architect to complete RIBA/ARB Part II and RIBA/ARB Part III and becoming fully registered.
Continuing
Our apprenticeship route has been agreed in principle with the RIBA and ARB so that validation / prescription will be in place by the time of graduation. Following the completion of the MSt, the student will then progress to take an End Point Assessment which takes 6-10 months and leads to the final Part III qualification which allows the candidate to register as an architect and become a member of the RIBA (Chartered Architect).

| Entry requirements | Students who are interested in applying are expected to already have the support from their employer before doing so. The employer will be required to complete the necessary paperwork, therefore a representative will need to be available to assist in the enrolment phase of the programme. The employer must be based in England and all students must be UK or EEA citizens, or have lived in the UK or EEA for the past 3 consecutive years, to qualify for an apprenticeship under the Government’s rule. The employer should be an Apprenticeship levy payer in this instance and will need to apply to the University to submit the students. Employers and students will be required to sign various contractual documentation with the University. These contracts will require the employer to commit to providing the 3-4 years of experience needed to qualify a student to get Part III and the employer must provide regular mentorship in line with the normal RIBA requirements to the student to make sure that their on-the-job training needs are being met. The student for their part, will be required to work diligently throughout the course and the University will undertake to provide the relevant training to provide the knowledge, skills and behavioural requirements to complete the course. |
