This programme offers you the opportunity to advance your practice through selection of modules designed to enhance your ability to take on roles in advanced practice. Invaluable to your career progression, it will enable you to lead and transform service delivery through research-informed clinical practice.
Our aim at the University of Birmingham is to support registered allied health professionals, nurses and midwives to develop the practical knowledge and theoretical understanding required to undertake advanced clinical roles across the healthcare sector.
Aligned to the Advanced Clinical Practitioner Standard and the Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice in England, the programme has been developed to extend learner’s competence to advanced clinical practice level with the support of theoretical and experiential learning; with high quality, research informed person-centred care at its heart.
With specialty specific competencies integrated with the generic core capabilities for Advanced Clinical Practice, this programme will enable you to lead and transform service delivery through research-informed clinical practice.

Entry requirements | Applicants for the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice will have completed a course leading to professional healthcare registration, have at least 36 months clinical experience, should normally hold an honours degree in their clinical field of practice. Applicants will need to demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development that shows an ability to study at masters level. All routes require current registration with relevant professional/regulatory organisations and a clinical mentor or designated medical supervisor in a current employment context. Please note: the ability to offer the independent prescribing route is subject to final approval by professional bodies. For this route, you will need to provide evidence of current professional registration and current DBS clearance. Please note: this programme does not offer a route to NMC registration/employment in the UK. International Student English language requirements You can satisfy our English language requirements in two ways: by holding an English language qualification to the right level by taking and successfully completing one of our English courses for international students English to IELTS 7.0 (with a minimum of 6.5 in each component). If you need help with your English language skills then support is available. The English for Academic Purposes Presessional course is for international students who have a conditional offer to study at the University, but who do not currently meet the English language requirements. The course is tailored to your level of English and allows you to meet the English language requirements for your programme without retaking IELTS. The EAP programme runs throughout the year and offers different programme lengths ranging from 42 weeks to 6 weeks. The length of course you need depends on your future course, your existing IELTS score and the English level you need for your university degree. |
