This programme aims to provide an understanding of the environmental, social and economic aspects of the human environment, and of the relevant systems of government and organisations of society; emphasis is placed on the development of professional skills for identifying, analysing and solving a variety of planning problems with the objective of improving quality of life and sustainability.

Core modules: planning, society and diversity; placemaking; geographical information systems for policy and planning; economics and property markets; research design and methods; planning and development methodology; rural and landscape planning; Irish planning law; transportation planning; public policy and the environment; urban and regional development; leadership and development project management; planning studio project. Electives are based on choosing a development and design or an environmental planning stream.
