Course snapshot

Tourism is one of the largest, most dynamic and competitive industries in the world, creating demand for managers who possess high-level knowledge and skills to succeed in the sector. Accredited by the University of Birmingham, UCB's International Tourism Management MSc/PGDip course will enhance your management potential and develop the skills you need to make a lasting, positive impact on any tourism or service organisation. You'll travel overseas to apply your skills in a real tourism context as well as having the option of a six-month placement.

Who’s the course for?

This course is perfect for anyone interested in tourism management who is seeking to build the kind of high-level critical thinking, problem-solving, research and analytical skills needed to make an immediate impact on an organisation within the dynamic and disruptive international environment.

Why should I study the course?

  • UCB is an official Institute of Travel and Tourism Centre of Excellence and provides tourism courses of the very highest standards with outstanding industry links, while this course is also accredited by the University of Birmingham, one of the world's leading academic institutions.

  • Our course includes a unique 'live' industry project giving you the opportunity to travel abroad, gain experience and use your skills in a real industry setting.

  • As part of UCB's ongoing investment, you'll be able to support your research by using our exciting new simulation facilities, including a state-of-the-art mock plane cabin. Due to open in autumn 2019, the facilities will also include check-in areas and Galileo GDS system for training students.

  • You can tailor your studies to match your career interests through our range of optional modules, while you also have the option of a work placement for up to six months.

  • Our lecturers have significant experience, both academically and within the industry, ensuring you will be trained to excel in the working world as well as in your studies.

Great. Tell me some more

During your studies, you will work on industry consultancy projects, network and debate contemporary themes in ‘creative dialogue’ sessions and mix with a diverse range of nationalities. The ‘live’ industry project, a key feature of this course, will see you travel overseas to apply your skills and knowledge in a practical, international context. Previous students have completed projects in the Gambia, the Azores, the Canary Islands, Cyprus, Madeira and Dubai.

As a postgraduate student, you will benefit from a ‘professional mentor’ offering you advice and guidance specifically on how to advance your career.

This course can be studied on a full-time or part-time basis. You may also be eligible to receive a postgraduate loan.

What skills will I gain?

You will have the opportunity to learn about every element of the international tourism industry, from the dynamics of airline operations to profit maximisation.

Your studies will focus on the importance of creativity, communication and knowledge of the most cutting-edge trends in the industry as a whole – specialised knowledge that should give you a further edge for employers.

Through the optional modules on offer, you will also have the opportunity to build skills in a range of other areas such as business creation, marketing and digital media.

What about the future?
