Meet the UCA alumni making waves in the creative industries

University for the Creative ArtsWhere can a postgraduate degree take you? For UCA students, postgraduate degrees have seen them bring architectural designs to life and feature artwork in largescale, international exhibitions.

As someone considering taking your creative studies further, we know there’s a lot to consider. Whether you seek to strengthen your creative skillset, carve a route to a new career, or make a difference through your craft, furthering your studies could be what’s needed to unlock that next door.

This is why we want to show you some of the incredible achievements that can be made by honing your creative skills, with real accomplishments made by students on UCA Masters and PhD programs.

For Master of Architecture alumnus, Henry Chan, an incredible opportunity arose just weeks after graduating from UCA. Henry’s specialised skillset saw him win a major design competition in his home city of Hong Kong, which will now see his designs for a new museum expansion become a reality.

Henry says, “I had a wonderful experience at UCA. Both the learning environment and projects provided an excellent atmosphere and opportunities for the exploration of creativity in my field of work, and this definitely helped my thinking for the competition.”

And in the art world, student Yangzi Wang has brought light to a historical Chinese weaving process through her contemporary textile art and performance art. Studying towards a PhD specialising in textile design, Yangzi’s work has been selected for this year’s International Fiber Art Biennale – a celebration of textile art and the largest exhibition of its kind.

Yangzi explains, “This practice-based performance is a redesign of the weaving processes of the Chinese backstrap loom and the thread lifting technique of Hualou loom, a two-person weaving technique. The performers will creatively coordinate body and hand movements, strength and motion in harmony with the co-weave performance.”

These are just a few examples of the successes our students have found through postgraduate study. And now it could be your turn.
