University of Liverpool teams up with Royal Liverpool Philharmonic for unique MA
The University of Liverpool has partnered up with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic for a unique masters course, which offers a significant internship element.
The MA Business in Classical Music is a fantastic opportunity for students who are passionate about developing a career in arts management or the classical music industry. This postgraduate program combines taught modules and guest speakers with practical work experience that incorporates three elements of the music industry – performance, venue management, and education.
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic comprises of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra – the UK’s oldest professional symphony orchestra; the Grade II* listed Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, which hosts around 400 events a year; and an extensive learning and education program. As such, the organisation has unparalleled expertise in diverse managerial specialisms, and offers a rich learning environment for students wishing to pursue employment in the music industry or the arts.
This hands-on experience is complemented by taught modules examining the management of classical music, the music industry, contracts, audiences and artistic planning, to help students develop a thorough and well-rounded knowledge of the profession. These modules are delivered by the University of Liverpool’s Department of Music, which has a long history in music industry studies. With experienced performers and leading researchers amongst the teaching staff, students will receive dedicated support to complete a dissertation is a chosen specialist field.
To further support students, the Department is pleased to offer three scholarships worth £3,800 each to UK and EU students who meet specific criteria.
Recognising the practical nature of this program, candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply – a first degree in Music is not essential. Places are limited due to the internship element, therefore early applications are advised.
