UCL Department of Security and Crime Science has 14 scholarships available
The Department of Security and Crime Science at University College London (UCL) has 14 scholarships available for its crime-related MSc programs.
These scholarships are available to students wishing to study postgraduate programs at the Department of Security and Crime Science, including:
MSc in Crime and Forensic Science
MSc in Crime Science
MSc in Countering Organised Crime and Terrorism
MSc in Policing
This department is part of the UCL Jill Dando Institute of Security and Crime Science, a recognised world leader in crime reduction research and home to a number of key research centres including the UCL Centre for the Forensic Sciences and the Dawes Centre for Future Crime at UCL. The Dawes Centre was set up to identify emerging crime threats to deliver pre-emptive interventions for the benefit of society.
Director of the Dawes Centre, Professor Shane Johnson, explains, “The past thirty years have demonstrated that paradigm shifts in technology lead inevitably to the emergence of new types of crime and offenders. We are all familiar with the rapid rise of cybercrime brought on by the ‘digital revolution’, but crime opportunities will also be presented by developments in, for example, nanotechnology, robotics, cybernetics, biohacking, cryptocurrency fraud, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI).”
Professor Johnson continues, “In a very real sense such ‘crimes of the future’ are an emergent property of the advance of civilisation. It is not a question of if new criminal opportunities will be exploited, but when and how. The challenge is in both forecasting the nature and spread of such crimes, and in tackling them effectively before they become established. To our knowledge we are the first research centre of this kind anywhere in the world, giving us the opportunity to set the agenda.”
The application deadline for these scholarships is Thursday 30th April 2020.
