Trinity Laban welcomes its new Chevening Scholar

Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance is delighted to welcome a Cuban dance artist and Chevening Scholar to its flagship postgraduate dance company Transitions.

Cuban dancer Claudia Hilda Rodriguez Pozo has joined the 2020/21 cohort of Transitions Dance Company as a recipient of a Chevening Scholarship, training alongside other international dancers as part of the MA/MFA Dance Performance Program at Trinity Laban.

Speaking about this exciting new stage in her life, Claudia says, “I am honoured to be a Chevening Scholar and I am looking forward to joining Trinity Laban’s MA Dance Performance program, which is the ideal setting for creative and cultural exchange and development.”

She continues, “I am part of the new generation of Cuban creators who aspire to generate societal changes in my country, and around the world, through artistic-dance projects. I intend to use my training to make an impactful contribution to this artistic evolution.”

Claudia is a choreographer and dancer who completed her undergraduate degree in dance at Cuba’s Insituto Superior de Arte. After graduating in 2018, she went on to win the Cuban Art Factory’s Choreography Award in 2019.

Artistic Director of Transitions Dance Company David Waring comments, “We are thrilled that Claudia is joining 2020-2021 cohort of Transitions Dance Company, where she will work with top practitioners to further enhance her skills as a performer-creator. She is a brilliantly talented dance artist and we are excited to support her work as a change-maker through dance.”

Commenting on Claudia’s achievement of becoming a Chevening Scholar, Director of Chevening, Miranda Thomas enthuses, “We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming Claudia to our Chevening cohort this year, and excited that she’ll be studying at Trinity Laban – one of the UK’s leading conservatoires. One of the great things about Chevening is that we have Scholars studying across all disciplines from engineering to public policy and from computer science to literature. As well as their intensive programs of study, Chevening Scholars have multiple opportunities to come together and learn from each other. This leads to cross-disciplinary conversations and shared perspectives, which add to the richness of their experience. We wish Claudia a wonderful year in the UK and look forward to seeing her at Chevening events.”
