Politecnico di Milano reopens its campuses to students after lockdown
Politecnico di Milano is preparing to resume student life on campus for the new academic year.
Professor Ferruccio Resta, Rector of Polimi explains, “Our university will not be reduced to a mere transmission of knowledge, the university is a place where a community grows both from a human and from a professional point of view.”
During lockdown, Polimi immediately implemented a deep internal reorganisation to cope with the new situation. This led to all teaching moving online, enabling students to continue to be able to follow lessons, sit their exams and graduate thanks to smart working. Plus, through its laboratories and skills, Polimi actively contributed to the fight against Covid-19 by producing individual protection devices and sanitizing liquid.
Now that lockdown has been eased, it is time for students to return to the campuses in a safe and controlled fashion, this will allow them to get the full Polimi experience and become part of the community. To make sure students feel safe in their new academic environment, classrooms have been set up to provide social distance, although for those international students having trouble getting to Milan online classes will also be available. More than 300 classrooms have been renovated with technological and digital equipment, so they are fully prepared for the use of the new platform for online learning. This will allow simultaneous and flexible management of the classroom in presence and at a distance. The platform is user friendly and allows up to 1,000 participants. Physical distance and the use of personal protective masks will be required, the premises will be sanitised daily and the timetable will be extended. Catering areas have been renovated and the libraries and study spaces are ready to welcome students and staff.
