Royal College of ArtThe Royal College of Art is holding a Cross-College Research Symposium called Transformation – Arts <> Cities <> Mobility <> Products <> Services <> Technology on Thursday 4th July 2019, from 9.30am–3.30pm.

We are witnessing a shift in global context with societies and technologies changing at an ever-increasing pace. Design disciplines are transforming as the focus changes from making things to considering the essential aspects of being human, such as emotion and experience, ethics and the global environmental impact of design. Mobility design, which provides and optimises modes of travel plays a key role in everyday life, linking everyone from different fields and impacting on several areas including the economy, environment, lifestyle, mental wellbeing, politics and production.

This symposium, organised by the Intelligent Mobility Design Centre, will tackle the most imminent challenges posed at a time when the highest percentage of the population is living in cities. The issue of moving around in cities cannot be simply solved by transportation specialists, there is a need for global interdisciplinary expertise and insights from all sectors of our society.
