Research excellence
Research in the department is strongly interdisciplinary and combines practical application with a theoretical understanding. Our research explores systems-wide issues in computer science, ranging from mathematical foundations through visual and cognitive processes to artificial intelligence, human-centred design and collaborative systems.
Much of our research addresses real-world challenges and issues, helping to shape a better future. 98% of our computer science submitted research activity ranked as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF2021).

Computer Science Scholarship
If you’re an international student and receive an offer to study our MSc Artificial Intelligence or MSc Advanced Machine learning course, you may be eligible for our Computer Science Scholarship, worth £5,000. This scholarship is available to overseas fee-paying students from selected countries.
