Coventry University: Architecture
|Institution||Coventry University View institution profile|
|Department||School of Art and Design|
Architecture at Coventry University is taught as a liberal discipline that is technically, professionally, socially, and environmentally sustainable, placing an emphasis on architecture as a social practice and a technical process which deliberately spans both science and the arts.
We strive to provide an architectural education that is as complex as the field of architecture itself, but which nonetheless has clarity of intent and purpose and is stimulating and accessible. Our teaching reflects the nature of contemporary architecture as an international field of creative inquiry and the course incorporates exploration, collaboration and the critical analysis of a range of inputs from differing sources, to provide the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary for the role of the architect in a modern multidisciplinary building design process.
This is a modular course based primarily on design project work, supported by lectures and seminars that explore the cultural, technical and professional dimensions of architecture.
**Why choose this course?**
The course is designed to celebrate the distinctive nature of Architecture as a discipline which spans the sciences and the arts. Established in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the course also draws on the teaching and research expertise from the Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing.
Studio based learning creates a holistic and integrated teaching and learning environment. Along with individual projects you will have the opportunity to undertake collaborative projects with students on master’s courses in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and the Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing. A wide range of workshop facilities will be available to you.
The course is informed by an advisory panel of practicing architects to ensure a strong and collaborative bond between practice and academia.
The university actively encourages international collaboration through field-trips, online interactive learning and opportunities for international exchanges.
The Architecture courses at Coventry University are designed to encourage our students to be both curious and critical of the factors that shape the built environment. The structure of the course reflects an integration of and consideration for human values and for finding appropriate roles for architecture in contemporary society.
