MA
Summary
In this rapidly changing world, a postgraduate course can serve different needs and give you that extra edge that today’s employers are looking for, or secure that much-needed promotion. Whatever your academic or professional goals, the School of Education and Human Development’s long tradition of academic excellence will help you get there.
Our full-time Education Studies MA is a 12-month taught programme that caters for the needs of those who wish to gain an MA degree through intensive full-time study. Students have a choice of modules that total 180 credits. The course has been designed to appeal to both home and international students.
Core Modules:
- Research methods
- Dissertation
A number of optional modules are also available.
**Progression**
It is possible for suitable MA students to move up to the Doctorate in Education Studies (EdD) programme after completing the four taught modules (120 credits) of the MA in Education Studies and demonstrating a high level of study at merit or above. Such students would not have to do an MA dissertation and would also need to complete an additional module and a ’Thesis Proposal’.
Transfer of credit into the EdD is evaluated case by case, by the EdD Course Director, as the EdD is a research degree.
After completing all modules, candidates for the EdD programme may be able to apply for studentships (please see the EdD programme for more information).

Summary
If you already have a degree, or the equivalent professional experience, then studying at Masters level is the logical next step for anyone wanting to reap the many and varied benefits that a higher degree can bring, such as career enhancement and individual fulfilment.
The five-weekends-per-year format around which the Masters programme is organised suits both local people and those travelling from further afield, and offers a supportive, friendly atmosphere in which to learn.
We regret that we are unable to accept applications from international students for this course.

Entry requirements | Applicants must have either an initial degree, a recognised equivalent qualification, or have at least three years’ relevant professional experience. All applicants will be asked to provide the name of a referee, who can vouch for the ability of the applicant to study at Master’s level. Occasionally, applicants may be asked to attend for interview before an offer of a place can be confirmed. Some modules may stipulate an additional, specific entry requirement, for example, previous teaching experience. |
