**About the course**
Please note, this is an NHS funded programme. Applications are made to the NHS and information and applications for the Scientist Training Programme (STP) are available on the NHS Careers website. Once you have been selected by the NHS to take this course you will then be required to complete an application directly with Aston University.
The Department of Health has introduced a new career pathway for Healthcare Scientists. Students are employed within NHS Departments and released to undertake academic study.
This includes clinical science training to provide an appropriately trained workforce to work in the NHS. This requires the education and training of practitioners in the division of neurosensory science. This division is made up of 3 pathways:
• Ophthalmic and vision sciences
Students undertake common learning throughout the programme but also have specialist topics in year two and three.
Intake: Approximately 20 students per year

Entry requirements are set by the NHS.
A first or upper second class honours degree, or above, or equivalent overseas degree recognised by Aston University, in a life sciences based subject e.g. chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacy, pharmaceutical technology, chemical engineering, pharmacology, physiology, or physical science subject.
Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to provide evidence of an English language qualification.
An Enhanced Level Criminal Records Bureau check (known as a DBS check) is required, and this is subject to Fitness to Practise Regulations.
