Summary

This module will enable students to understand the role of EEG in the management of adults and children. It covers two strands of neurophysiology practice

  • EEG on the intensive care unit

  • Paediatric EEG

  • Uses of Long-term EEG

Module outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

  • EEG on the intensive care unit: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the pathophysiology and management of patients with altered mental status, and clinical uses of continuous EEG monitoring in intensive care units.

  • Paediatric EEG: Demonstrate the ability to critically appraise the pathophysiology, clinical presentation and electroencephalographic findings in paediatric epileptic syndromes and paediatric metabolic manifestations on the central nervous system.

  • Long-term EEG: Critically analyse the clinical applications of ambulatory recordings and video-telemetry in adult and childhood seizure disorders. Apply integrative understanding of normal and abnormal sleep and its assessment.
