This course provides a detailed introduction to key concepts of the UK taxation system. This allows the student to prepare and interpret tax documentation for UK business and individuals. The students are expected to be able to apply legislative principles to practical examination problems and scenarios.

Students are required to possess a degree/relevant professional qualifications, or a CPA training contract.
Assessments are in the form of an open book case study. The case study focuses on a range of taxes and require application of knowledge and skills learned during the course.
Modules: introduction to taxation economic and social background; income tax self-assessment and the income tax return; calculation of income from self-employment and partnerships; income from self- employment basis periods; employment income; capital gains tax; capital gains tax further aspects and reliefs; introduction to corporation tax; further aspects of corporation tax; groups and the international perspective; administration of taxation; value added tax principles; further value added tax issues.
