Summary
On this course, you’ll learn about the key issues in human resource management (HRM). You’ll gain knowledge in employment relations, workplace behaviours and the practice of good people-management. You’ll explore:
- internal and external factors that give shape to complex HR ideas and practices. This includes firm strategy, market dynamics, national and supranational governance, demographic and technological trends, and political-ideological contexts
- HR issues from the perspective of the strategy of an individual firm, and the external context of labour markets, employment relations and employment trends
- assessing and improving employee engagement, and evaluating the effectiveness of employee-engagement strategies
- financial and managerial aspects including turnover assessment, recruitment, retention, retirement, redundancy, dismissal, succession planning and talent management
- the interplay between firm-level management practices and employee experiences including motivation, engagement, identity-formation, negotiation, participation and representation.
You’ll learn from nationally and internationally recognised scholars in a wide range of HRM areas. You’ll have the opportunity to take part in activities including CIPD conferences, employer visits and practitioner seminars.
