Develop your passion and enhance your understanding of the past with a master’s in History at the University of Southampton. You'll learn of the great variety of history, develop explanations of the patterns that shaped the world, and examine wider perspectives across the past.
This flexible MA programme will engage you with leading researchers in a variety fields, from the Ancient world to the 'war on terror'. You can choose to study history from across the world, including Britain, continental Europe, North America, Africa and Asia.

Summary
Our MA programme is team-taught with a rich diversity of historical research. Many modules have an interdisciplinary focus, with an appeal to the specialisms of students with a variety of backgrounds in historically-oriented disciplines. A distinctive feature of the MA is the core module, Public History, exploring how history is communicated to a wider audience. This seeks to enhance employability, especially for those interested in pursuing history-related careers outside academia. You may also choose modules in other Humanities disciplines likely to improve your skills, especially in foreign languages such as French, German or Latin.
