Summary
Individuality is at the core of this postgraduate programme. We work with artists who use their social, moral, and ethical values to animate their practice. This is a course where you will have agency over your own work and be responsible for driving your learning and creativity forward.
It is this agency which makes the programme different from undergraduate study. With support from the staff team, you will write your own learning outcomes, determine your trajectory and ultimately, we hope, you will flourish as both a learner and a creative practitioner.
It’s an intense programme where actors and directors work together, creating a dynamic community rooted in creative collaboration. Highlights include developing original digital work for the On the Verge festival, performing or directing contemporary performance working in proto-professional ensembles and completing a month’s residency at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, London.
At the end of this residency, after undertaking classes with the educational team at the Globe, you will perform or direct sharings on the mainstage of Shakespeare’s Globe, a unique and iconic playing space.

If you choose **RCS or London** as your audition location - all elements of the audition (including the interview) will be completed in person, you will not need to upload any recorded material on Acceptd, but you **must** still upload your headshot and complete the applicant questionnaire to be considered for the programme.

MA Directing Classical and Contemporary Text is a vocational postgraduate programme of study for emerging artists. The programme aims to enable directors to acquire practical skills, knowledge and understanding in relation to contemporary/new writing and classical text.
There will be numerous opportunities to learn and experiment, in projects, rehearsals and performances; creative collaboration lies at the heart of all the work. As part of your studies, you will complete a one-month residency at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, developing your knowledge and skills in classical text in this unique, iconic environment. You will spend time working on both classical and contemporary texts. These plays are performed to a public and professional audience.
Through this programme you will benefit from professional connections allowing you to develop invaluable industry contacts. When you graduate, you will have gained practical, high-level experience of working in the profession, as well as all-important contacts and the skills to underpin your future career. The programme also encourages you to generate your own performance ideas, so that you are able to emerge into the professional world with a greater sense of yourself as a creative, self-reliant artist.

Please note, if you choose **Philadelphia** as your audition location, you will attend an in-person interview only. Following your interview you **must create an Acceptd account** and submit your audition material for assessment to be considered for the programme. Philadelphia Auditions will only be available 19th - 21st January 2024, if you submit an application after this date you will need to choose either RCS, London or online audition options.
