Juggling part-time post-grad study and work

Postby Benneh on Tue Mar 11, 2008 9:14 am

I'm considering doing a post-grad course on a part-time basis in London. I currently work full time in management consulting, which is quite demanding and varied in terms of working hours. Whilst my company is supportive, I'm anxious about being able to manage my time well so I don't fall behind in my studies (or my work). Does anyone have any good tips on how to manage work vs study time and keep on top of both requirements? Thanks :?:

Hi there
Hopefully your employer will be as understanding as mine was. I found that keeping my boss informed of my study deadlines helped to make sure I avoided too many clashes with work deadlines.

Anyone else doing postgrad study whilst working! I work pretty long hours so not sure if it will be too much extra work or not. Has anyone tried Birkbeck for pg courses or are you doing it distance learning :?:

I have done short-term evening courses in the past at Birkbeck, and found them manageable even though I was in full time employment at the time. However I had relatively little home study to do between classes, whereas I'd expect much more for a post-grad qualification.

I believe postgrad study needs concertration so it can be time consuming which is worthwhile. whether distance learning or in class study, atleast you need a quite fresh mind therefore work and studies might prove so demanding in terms of time and finances. some have been there and managed but they say its not easy. i suggest you weigh the two.

best luck

Hi there!

It's really challenging to fulfill both job and study requirements at the same time. But i think it is facinating on the other hand to succeed on both targets. I guess the most important thing is to discuss and settle your issues and objectives with your boss first so that you can forcast yourself to your vission with outdoubt and fear . Otherwise, you could be imersed in to stress that could arrise from the workload and obligations all the time till you accomplish or give-up on the persuit of your goals.

Yours

Hello...
I think in this type of program in starting you have no pressure so you can able to learn and earn but after some they put you under so much that you are not able to study...
