The Institute of Advanced Telecommunications (IAT) at Swansea University has created a new group on popular social networking site Facebook for students and staff.

The group will be used for announcements, discussion and advertising events held by IAT, and will allow students to socialise even before they arrive to study in Swansea. Current and past students have already joined, which will give new prospective students an opportunity to chat with them to find out more information about living and studying in Swansea.

Prof Nick Doran, Head of Institute, says: 'We think it’s important to communicate with our students through the medium of the internet considering it is so popular amongst that age group. More importantly, it keeps IAT at the forefront of communication which is fundamentally what we are about as an institute through our research.'
