Academic strengths
We are consistently ranked amongst the top modern universities in the UK and have an excellent reputation for the quality of our teaching and applied research. Sheffield Hallam University is a recognised national Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning and we were placed first amongst English institutions in a new teaching quality league table in the Times Higher Education Supplement (November 2006).

Facilities
We have some of the most advanced teaching and learning facilities in the UK. Over the last ten years we have invested more than £80 million in state-of-the-art buildings and resources, and £100 million more will be invested over the next five years to provide more top quality learning environments for our students.

Learning Centres on each of our campuses bring together traditional library services and technologically advanced computing and multimedia facilities. They offer 24 hour access and are open seven days a week during semesters. All students have their own file space and easy access to the internet via our high speed campus network. The network also allows off-campus and wireless users to access our online services.

Our specialist resources, equipment and laboratories are amongst the most modern and technically advanced in the UK and our new £15 million Health and Wellbeing Building has been described as "a beacon for the future of health education in the country" by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Accommodation
We have a variety of good value student accommodation which has been rated best in the UK (International Student Barometer, spring 2007). 

There is a wide range of good value accommodation available and students are guaranteed a place for their first year of study.

Location
Sheffield is England’s greenest and fourth largest city, and due to its reputation for safety and a low cost of living is one of the UK’s most popular student destinations, home to more than 50,000 students. Sheffield is located in the north of England, just over two hours away from London by train. Manchester International airport is just one hour from the city centre and the central train and bus stations make it an ideal location for anyone wishing to travel around the rest of the UK. Sheffield boasts some of the lowest student living costs in the England and is one of the safest cities in the UK.

Scholarships
Sheffield Hallam University offers a number of European Scholarships and International Achievement Scholarships worth up to £4000 for our overseas students. All full-time undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses are taking part in the programme.
