General Information University of Salford
Situated on a green riverside campus, the University of Salford currently has 18,000 students, including over 2,500 students from more than 130 countries around the world. The main university campus is located less than three kilometres from the centre of Manchester, only 16 km from Manchester International Airport, and just over 2 hours from London.

Not only is Manchester home to the largest student population in Europe, but many nationalities and ethnic groups from around the world have made Manchester their home, creating a richly diverse, open-minded, multicultural society with an inviting spirit and a vibrant international buzz.

Graduate Employability 
The University is widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading enterprise universities and is famous for its links with industry, commerce and the arts. Good links with employers mean that 74% of our full-time undergraduate courses offer work placements and the University enjoys an excellent graduate employment record. Salford graduates are prominent in business, industry, the public sector and non-governmental organisations worldwide.

Academic Research & Teaching
The University achieved the highest possible rating during the latest government quality assurance inspection. More than half of researchers work in an area rated 5 or above in the UK government’s research assessment exercise 2001, and research in the built environment and information systems has been awarded the maximum 5* rating.

In addition, the University has achieved maximum teaching quality scores for politics and biological sciences. The university’s media and popular music programmes are famous throughout the world. Salford is the only university in the UK with its own TV station which broadcasts on a terrestrial signal, Channel M.

Facilities
The University is investing £150 million in new buildings, and the refurbishment and regeneration of two campus sites. Students have free access to the internet, email, and over 800 open access computers, and can log on 24-hours a day. On-campus there are four library sites with over 650,000 volumes as well as databases and an e-library system, and leisure facilities include a swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna, sports halls, fitness rooms, an indoor climbing room, squash courts and all-weather sports pitches.

Accommodation
The University guarantees accommodation for all first year students and has 3255 single bedrooms with free broadband internet access, contents insurance and membership of the campus leisure centre. Family accommodation is also available.

Once at the University, students have access to a range of resources such as the Student Assistance Office, Careers Service and an assigned personal tutor to help get the most out of their experience. Salford’s international student advisors can provide assistance and support to international students on a range of issues, and there are free medical facilities and counselling available on the campus to all students.

The International Society enables students to meet new people from different cultures and organises events and visits to other parts of the UK and Europe. The Students’ Union offers a variety of clubs and societies to cater for every interest. The world’s major religions are all catered for and meeting places and prayer facilities are available on campus.
