University of Winchester
“There are many reasons to study at Winchester – but the one to consider most is that you will become part of a supportive community that offers flexible study at a variety of levels, whether you choose to learn full-time or part-time.”
Introduction
The University of Winchester is located just one hour away from London set in a pleasant wooded setting overlooking the South Downs in Hampshire. The campus is within walking distance of Winchester city centre and the railway station.
We have a strong reputation for teacher training. Other subject strengths include archaeology, creative writing, performing arts, dance, drama and theology and religious studies. There is a new business school with a range of business management Masters degrees. An MBA has also been introduced.
In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), the University was the third most improved institution in the country, reflecting five years of investment. We were also recently commended by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for the work of our Research and Knowledge Transfer Centre in supporting our research students and underpinning our research environment.
Location
Winchester was voted the best place to live in England (Channel 4’s Best and Worst Places to Live in the UK 2007). It is one of the most beautiful cathedral cities in the UK and is one hour away from London by train. Winchester is also close to the cities of Southampton, Portsmouth and Bournemouth and ideally located for sailing on the Southampton Solent, and exploring the New Forest and Dorset coastline.

The key facility for postgraduate students is the Research and Knowledge Transfer Centre which is dedicated to research and consultancy. The Martial Rose Library is a modern three-storey building that offers excellent facilities for study and research.
There is access to 24-hour networked IT facilities and also wireless internet access available across the campus. We offer excellent sports facilities including our new Olympic standard 400m eight-lane athletics track with supporting facilities for field events, a hockey and general sports pitch, floodlighting and an extended pavilion.
The new University Centre offers a number of social facilities including the Student Union, an internet café, mini-mart, dining hall and a bookshop. The Student Union caters for a wide selection of tastes offering comedy nights and film showings in its cinema.
Campus accommodation and university managed housing is available. The Student Housing Services team will ensure you have quality housing throughout your study and can advise on private housing in the city.
