Overview
The University of Hertfordshire is an ambitious and entrepreneurial University. It offers excellence in teaching, learning and research and puts students at the heart of its activities. It is a model of a 21st Century university, international, business-facing and business-like in approach - making it distinctive in an ever changing higher education environment. It has 24,000 students including 2,000 international from 85 countries.
The University is located just 25 minutes by train from London in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside. Our campuses in Hatfield are safe, attractive places to live and study and include world-class sports and learning facilities. We guarantee you a place in University accommodation for your first year of study.
To help international students study with us, we offer a number of international scholarships. These scholarships are available at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and are worth up to £3,500 a year.
Courses
Our courses are developed in consultation with business, industry, the professions and the public sector. Many of our courses also include placement opportunities, providing you with valuable experience which will give you an advantage in your career. We offer a huge range of courses across our 19 Schools of study. Subject areas include Art and Design, Film, Music and Media, Business, Computer Science and Engineering, Physics, Astronomy and Maths, Humanities, Law and Education and Biological and Life Sciences. We also provide preparation and foundation programmes and English language support.
Outstanding Facilities
The Independent league tables recently revealed that the University of Hertfordshire has spent more money on facilities than any other UK University. Our state-of-the-art Learning Resources Centres are open to students 24/7 to meet your information, computing, study and coursework needs.
Our £15m Sports Village offers some of the best university-based sporting and fitness facilities in the UK. Facilities include the 100 station Vision Health and Fitness Club, fitness studio, 12 metre high climbing wall, a four-net purpose-built cricket hall, squash courts, artificial and grass pitches, a 25 metre eight-lane swimming pool and a badminton court sports hall which also offers basketball, volleyball and netball courts.
Student Life
We offer a wide variety of support services specifically for international students, from help with planning your move to the UK, to our free Overseas Students Orientation Programme and, during your studies, access to specialist international advisers if you need some extra help. The University also provides a multi-faith and multi-cultural centre; a professional free and confidential counselling service and a health centre. Experienced international advisers are available to help with issues such as immigration and work permits, financial issues and personal matters.
The centre of University social life is the Students’ Union on our College Lane Campus. Membership is free, and there are many clubs and societies available to join. The University’s International Students’ Association (ISA) organises a packed calendar of social events, including visits to the famous UK cities of Bath, Cambridge and Edinburgh, as well as tours further afield to Brussels and Paris.
Stay local for your entertainment and you will find great clubs, pubs and restaurants in the bustling towns of Watford and St Albans, all within easy reach of the campuses. Or visit Hatfield’s multi-screen cinema situated in the Galleria Outlet Shopping Centre, where there are always great shopping opportunities. You’ve also got all the attractions of London less than half an hour away by train.
