Edge Hill University
Vision and values
At the heart of Edge Hill’s vision and values is the aim to provide an innovative, high-quality and inclusive learning experience, developing individuals as skilled and autonomous learners.
We aspire to be the ‘university of choice’ for prospective students, staff and partners, promoting accessibility, placing students first and home to a strong research culture.
Innovation in teaching and learning is central for all programmes, with state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge technology accessible across the campus. The SOLSTICE Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning is a national and international hub for developing e-learning projects.
Equality and diversity is a key value of the University; Edge Hill offers an inclusive culture embracing respect for and celebration of difference. All students benefit from strong student support systems, including academic support for your studies and welfare support from our student services department.
Edge Hill’s courses are career focused and are designed to enhance student employability. Many of our postgraduate courses include a work placement allowing students to demonstrate the skills gained from study while they undertake a project for an organisation. Our award-winning careers centre helps to guide our students in their future careers, as well as advising on part-time work and volunteering opportunities in the local area.
The university of choice
In 2007, Edge Hill was one of only six universities shortlisted for the University of the Year Award, which recognises the best in higher education in the UK. We were also pleased to discover that in the National Student Survey 2007, 82% of our students were satisfied with their course overall. This places us well above the national average and among the top 20 English universities for student satisfaction.
Home to a vibrant learning community and student-focused experience, Edge Hill has a proud history and bright future, with exciting times ahead as the ‘university of choice’, synonymous with high quality, accessibility, innovation, student support and value for money.
Amazing space
Original buildings have been complemented by state-of-the-art modern resources, situated in picturesque landscaped grounds, including £4m worth of sport and leisure amenities. As the campus has expanded, Edge Hill has not lost sight of its desire and obligation to care for the individual student and has a strong ongoing commitment to student support.
Over the next ten years we’ll be investing a total of £220m to improve and develop our Ormskirk campus. This will mean more student accommodation, more learning resources and equipment, more leisure facilities and more open spaces for you to enjoy your learning and make the most of the social experience.
In 2008, the Faculty of Health moved from its hospital location in Aintree into a £14m, environmentally friendly building overlooking the lake. This new building not only has state-of-the-art facilities but also a huge lecture theatre where graduation ceremonies take place.
The Business School will relocate during 2008 to an £8m building to cater for the increasing number of degree courses and students. The brand-new building will increase links with businesses in the future through video conferencing and the latest information technology. The Department of Law and Criminology will also be based there, with new facilities including a moot room, or mock courtroom.
