University of Gloucestershire

University of GloucestershireHistory
The University of Gloucestershire is a medium-sized university in the South West of England with over 100 years of history. It has delivered high quality teaching and higher education since 1847 when it was a major teacher training college. It now offers an extensive range of undergraduate, postgraduate masters and PhD degrees. All our courses achieved the highest rating in the last teaching quality assessment and several areas were highlighted as examples of good practice.

With 8,000 students, its small and friendly nature means that you can expect a very personal level of support. Its on-campus accommodation, free orientation programme and dedicated international student support services are there to make your transition to studying in the UK as easy as possible.

In fact, the Times Higher Education Supplement League Table on Student Experience placed the University of Gloucestershire in the top three of all the ‘new universities’.

The flexible structure of the degrees at Gloucestershire means that you can have more choice about the options you study and the vocational nature of many of its programmes ensures that you are learning skills that employers are looking for in new graduates.

Facilities
Gloucestershire has all the facilities you would expect of a modern university. It was voted a “Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning” in 2005 by the Higher Education Funding Council. As a result, we will be investing an additional £4.5 million on new campus facilities over the next few years.

University accommodation is located on all of our campuses and is guaranteed for new international students who apply by the August deadline and who are travelling without their family. There are different types of accommodation, including en-suite, and most has direct access to the internet.

We have an extensive student support service, including a dedicated international student adviser and an events coordinator who runs social events for international students and trips to visit the local tourist attractions.

If you are hoping to find part time work while you are studying, our “job shop” can help you and it also employs 60 regular students to help run its services.

Location
The university is located on four different campuses, each with a very specific subject focus. Whatever your course, your teaching will be located on one campus, but travel between campuses is very easy with the free university bus services which links all campuses and the town centre.

Cheltenham  www.visitcheltenham.info

Three of our campuses are based in the beautiful town of Cheltenham, conveniently located only 2 hours away from London and often referred to as the “gateway to the Cotswolds”. Cheltenham is an attractive and peaceful town located in an area of outstanding natural beauty that attracts six million tourists from all over the world every year. Cheltenham is well known for the many festivals that it hosts, including jazz, science, music, cricket, literature and more. It is also home the world famous Cheltenham Racecourse which is also used as a very atmospheric venue for social events and the university graduation ceremony.

Cheltenham is also ideally located to access some of the most beautiful countryside in England – the rolling hills and pretty villages of the Cotswolds are on your doorstep and the towns of Stratford upon Avon and Bath are also within easy reach.

Our newest campus, Oxstalls, is based just a few miles away in the thriving, multicultural city of Gloucester. The city has a lively nightlife, a multitude of bars, cafes and waterside restaurants and a magnificent cathedral.
