The University
Founded in 1920, Swansea University is a world-class, research-led university situated in stunning parkland overlooking Swansea Bay on the edge of the Gower Peninsula, the UK’s first ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. Swansea enjoys a full range of social, cultural and sporting amenities and excellent transport links, with London under three hours away by train.
The University boasts a thriving postgraduate community of around 2,000 students and offers postgraduate degrees in arts, business, economics, engineering, health studies, languages, law (including the Legal Practice Course), sciences and social sciences. Conversion-style courses are available in law (the Graduate Diploma in Law), computer science, engineering and business. Swansea’s Business School is the only one in Wales to offer full- and part-time MBAs that are accredited by the Association of MBAs.

Swansea was named winner of the inaugural Times Higher Education Supplement Award for the UK’s Best Student Experience. In addition, the latest National Student Survey ranked Swansea in the UK’s top ten for student satisfaction, alongside Durham and UCL and beating universities such as Cardiff, Bristol and Warwick.
Research achievements and teaching excellence
Swansea is a stronghold of both teaching and research excellence:
- In the most recent UK national Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), 70% of departments were rated 4 or above, with a third awarded the top ratings of 5 or 5*.
- 92% of academic staff were entered into the RAE – the highest in Wales and fifth highest in the UK.
- Fourteen departments have been rated ‘excellent’ for teaching quality.
- It is the UK’s leading university for collaborative research with industry.

Postgraduate facilities
The University’s Library and Information Centre (LIC) houses over 800,000 books and periodicals and provides access to a wide range of online journals, articles and databases. Across campus, there is approximately one PC to every six students, and the LIC houses a dedicated postgraduate study area and computer room.
International students
Swansea University welcomes students from over 100 countries, and currently has more than 1,000 international students.
