The HERO website contains a comprehensive range of information on UK higher-education institutions, universities and colleges (including an interactive map of the UK and a searchable database), studying, research and business, plus the latest UK research and university news and a student blog.
How it is measured
HERO in itself does not provide any quality measurements, but utilises all the official measures, plus information from the institutions themselves, as part of its UK universities and colleges database and advice. See ‘Official data’ for more information.
Pros and cons
HERO provides very comprehensive data about UK institutions. It is an effective one-stop shop.

All UK universities provide extensive information about themselves in a variety of media. They are required to publish on this website a range of information about the nature, quality and character of each degree programme, and you can search the site by university and programme. Their own websites are also a comprehensive source of information about their programmes and student facilities.
How it is measured
UK institutions will have their own internal quality assurance mechanisms to ensure their own awards’ academic standards and quality meet required standards and are consistent. On top of that, they are, of course, subject to the official measures. See ‘Official data’ for more information.
Pros and cons
UK institutions will know themselves best and will provide in-depth information tailored to your needs. However, this kind of information often does not allow easy comparison of institutions. Also, be aware they are selling themselves to you; they will not necessarily be providing a dispassionate overview.
