Charlotte Jarvis is returning to Birmingham University as a postgraduate student, and she is very grateful to Postgrad Solutions for the contribution they have made towards funding her studies with their £500 bursary. ‘I feel very happy about the bursary as I am currently funding my education and rent on my own without the help of a loan or parental donations. The money will help a great deal and also relieve the strain a bit allowing me to concentrate more intensely on my studies.’
Having studied at Birmingham University as an undergraduate, Charlotte Jarvis was keen to return to the institution for her postgraduate studies. She says, ‘I feel very comfortable with the environment, and I like that Birmingham University has such a good reputation in terms of university rankings. I know from my previous experience here how involved the teaching is, and I like the style of teaching.’
Being based at the university’s business school has helped her make the transition from undergraduate, to the more mature postgraduate style of studying. She says, ‘I have enjoyed the more serious role that we are now expected to take. The other day we had a drinks reception during which business people came in and discussed their experiences of studying with us. It helped me to see the light at the end of the tunnel in terms of getting a good job.’
As well as enjoying the drinks reception and meeting established business people, another highlight of Charlotte’s first week has been meeting a wide selection of international students. This is of particular appeal to her because she is keen to go into international marketing as her chosen career.
Having completed her first couple of weeks as a postgraduate, Charlotte is very enthusiastic about this new phase of learning. ‘I have enjoyed the more mature teacher-student relationship. I really like how we are very much expected to express our opinions and go into a lot more depth with our studies.’
