Postgrad Solutions UK Postgraduate Study Bursary Winner - Engineering

Chinazo Unachukwu, PhD Electronic & Electrical Engineering, University of Leeds

Chinazo Unachukwu has returned to the University of Leeds to study a  PhD in Electronic & Electrical Engineering. Last year she completed her Masters programme at Leeds and she is delighted to be returning as a PhD student. Chinazo says of winning the Postgrad Solutions bursary:

‘I can’t express my gratitude enough, I really want to say a big thank you to everyone at Postgrad Solutions for making me part of this experience. The £500 bursary has gone a long way to reduce my worries and make me more focused on my programme.

 

Chinazo applied for a Postgrad Solutions Bursary via the Postgrad.com website. She says of Postgrad.com:

‘It is a useful tool if you need help in getting scholarships, bursaries, also if you are not sure of the university to study at and maybe need direction.‘ She continues, ‘It also helps with information like advice on thesis, essay, viva and important aspects every students will face in a university. It helps international students with advice and useful information on visa-related issues - the website is really loaded with lots of stuff!’

University of Leeds Chinazo was keen to return to Leeds to further her studies. She says, ‘The community in Leeds is so accommodating and friendly, the staff at university are very supportive of students.’

One of the other reasons for her choice is that the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Leeds was ranked first position in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise. Chinazo was encouraged to pursue a doctorate degree after her Masters and says, ‘It was also a good decision to remain at the university as I had already made lots of friends at school and in Leeds.’

The 22 year old has been doing her programme for a couple of weeks now and her research is based on digital signal processing for communications. She hopes to develop new ways of improving existing technologies in the communication industry.

Chinazo is from Nigeria and chose to come to the UK for her studies because it is a developed multicultural country, providing her with the ideal environment for complete access to current and latest information on upcoming technologies in communication. She says, ‘Studying in the UK will expand my knowledge and enhance my career and give me the opportunity to relate with people from all areas and disciplines in the world.’
