This is a programme that will attract those employed and working with children aged 0-19 years: employed in the maintained sector: primary, secondary and special schools and within wider children’s services. This programme will support the progression needs of local authority employees from specialist areas who have an education remit as part of their employment: area inclusion officers, consultant teachers and those working with children with Special Educational Needs and Disability. This programme will also support qualified teachers embarking on a Masters level of study.
This Master`s in Education supports the continuous development of graduates who wish to gain higher level qualifications in the education sector. The programme will be available through online distance learning.
The MA in Education provides a structured pathway for professional development and scholarship within the field of education. The distinctiveness of the programme is its focus on theoretical content and transformation of educational practice using methods of enquiry- based learning that is embedded in practice. Education interpreted in a broad sense includes all aspects of pedagogical approaches to learning, development and participation of children, young people and adults in their social/cultural worlds. Challenging the nature and meaning of ‘education’ and current practice is central to the MA in Education Studies, we draw on social, cultural and educational theory to critically engage with debates and dilemmas which challenge the education sector. This deep theorising is used in conjunction with knowledge generated through other practice-related enquiry methods like practice-based research or case study, to help frame innovative solutions to educational practice.
