Career history

After graduating from The University Paris-Dauphine in France, Thuy Lan was looking for a postgraduate Masters programme with an international perspective, strong company relations network and most importantly a practical approach that would help her launch an international marketing career.

The MEB programme from ESCP-EAP was the perfect Master’s programme for me as it offered a one-year programme in business related subjects, in two different countries. I chose the Madrid/London stream in order to improve my Spanish and to start my career in London after graduating. I was motivated by the idea of living and studying in two different countries, not only to improve my language skills but also to learn and appreciate other countries’ culture and business environment. I was also impressed that ESCP-EAP was the only business school with its own campuses in the major cities in Europe, which enables them to offer a great infrastructure as well as infinite student networking opportunities.

The MEB Programme includes theoretical learning along with very practical learning thanks to participation in two Consultancy projects as well as a mandatory internship.

During my semester in Madrid, I had the great opportunity to conduct a 3-week consultancy project for Colgate-Palmolive. Within a team of 4, we were working on Category Management for the Glass cleaner’s category and our objective was to develop Merchandizing Plans. Although the project was very short, the experience was extremely valuable. It was very interesting to work in a team on a short term project that we knew would be useful and valuable for the company. A consultancy project is the best opportunity to demonstrate your capabilities and your ability to adapt yourself to new environments, is highly valued by employers.

The internship is also very important in the MEB programme as most students are offered their first job after their successful placement. In my case I did my internship in London with a French beauty and well being company called L’Occitane Provence, and I am now working in their Marketing Department. L’Occitane has currently 700 boutiques in over 60 countries in the world and 24 boutiques in the UK. My job involves implementing marketing actions defined by the yearly marketing plan. The fiscal year is divided by marketing campaigns of 3 weeks each, therefore special activities or promotions need to be implemented for each campaign highlighting a new range, a new product or a new promotion for example. The job is very interesting as I am also involved in many diversified projects in Public Relations, Visual Merchandising or CRM activities as well. I think that the MEB programme has prepared me to work in an international environment as we had many team projects during our course which involved working with people with a different culture and background.

I have loved studying at ESCP-EAP for the MEB programme as I have learnt a lot and made some very special friends. I would recommend it to anyone open to new experiences, in search of excellent business and management courses and great international exposure.
