You’re hired! A new UWIC Apprentice
UWIC’s MBA students at the Cardiff School of Management were set a very special challenge last Spring to compete for a one year professional placement at one of the leading medical companies in the UK.
The placement which was offered by Hospital Innovations, an international leader in medical technology
which specialises in orthopaedic and cosmetic surgery, involves a fully paid role, working on a variety of high profile marketing projects, including the opportunity for international travel, human resource management, E-marketing and health and safety management.
Each student who wished to compete within the boardroom were asked to submit a professional CV, along with a 1,500 word assignment highlighting their own ideas on
future trends in marketing within the international
pharmaceutical industry.
The top eight entries that made it to the semi finals visited the company, where the best three candidates were chosen to make it to the final round and faced a tough hour-long interview with senior management panel members, including Phil Davies and Sarah Lister-Sims from Cardiff School of Management.
The successful candidate, Sanket Hiremath from India, who was presented with his award by Professor Antony Chapman, UWIC Vice-Chancellor, said: 'I’m very pleased to have this opportunity and am really looking forward to it, particularly as my family are involved in the medical industry back in India.'
Sanket’s placement will begin in September, after he completes his dissertation and MBA.
Phil Davies, Chief Executive of Hospital Innovations which is based in St Mellons, Cardiff, is a former student of UWIC and has since enjoyed a high flying career in marketing once graduating, within the international pharmaceutical industry.
John Phillips, Dean of International students, said: 'Phil has always been keen to support UWIC, he is the President of the UWIC Men’s Rugby Club and he was the guest speaker at our first MBA dinner.
We are most grateful to Hospital Innovations and hope that this will become an annual event. All of the entrants benefited from the process as it is an excellent exercise for any MBA student.'
He continued: 'The project has also added to the international reputation of UWIC’s MBA course – many congratulations to Sanket.'
