The University of Westminster reopened its Marylebone Road student halls of residence after an £11.2 million, year-long refurbishment.
The residence, which first opened in 1970, now provides 226 brand new ensuite rooms for students in the heart of London. The redevelopment has ensured that students are given improved access to communal facilities, including kitchens shared between a cluster of six flats, and a common room with televisions, pool tables and computer games.
University Vice Chancellor, Professor Geoffrey Petts, said that the opening of the new halls was a “key step” in the University’s ambitious process of change, and one that had been achieved after long consultation with students to make their views a priority.
‘The refurbishment of our Marylebone Halls has not simply been a construction project’ he said. ‘It also reflects new thinking in improving student satisfaction and welfare. Our students told us that at times, life in Halls could be isolating. We listened, and responded. These flats have a greater individual identity, and the new common room provides a space for students to come together day by day.’
The £11.2 million refurbishment includes:
• 212 normal and 14 large ensuite rooms in the heart of London.
• High speed internet connection throughou
• A common room, with widescreen televisions, a pool table and computer games consoles
• Floor structure remodeled to include shared kitchens for every cluster of six individual flats, opposed to twelve in the previous halls
• 24 Hour security
