University of Sussex is having a Green Week from 5th-11th March

The University of Sussex is organising a range of fun activities to raise awareness of environmental issues from 5th-11th March. Students will be spreading the green message on campus and in Brighton.

A series of free eco-friendly events will be taking place across the University of Sussex's campus and in Brighton.

Green Week 2011 launches at Jubilee Square, Brighton, on Saturday 5th March with a day of green-themed live performances, food and drink, book swaps, stalls and family fun.

Biz  Bliss, Operations Officer at the Students' Union at the University of Sussex, says, "We all know that sustainability isn't just about going to talks and events - it's about embedding environmental thinking into our everyday lives. So this year, Green Week aims to bring people together and inspire positive action for a sustainable future - long beyond the end of the week!"

The Sustainable City Day on 5th March kicks off seven days of events, each with a different theme, including:

* Garden on Sunday 6th March, which includes an allotment open day and a solar-powered outdoor cinema.

* Transport on Monday 7th March, which includes a bike-maintenance workshop and a talk by Dan Glass, former President of the Students' Union.

* Food on Tuesday 8th March, which includes a market and a demo by Love Food Hate Waste.

* Waste and recycling on Wednesday 9th March, which includes a litter pick, a fashion show and a craft fair.

*  Campaign on Thursday 10th March, which includes talks on sustainable fishing, sweatshops and direct action.
