University of Salford appoints new Head of Art & Design
The University of Salford has appointed Professor Allan Walker as Head of its School of Art & Design. Professor is an internationally respected arts academic and higher education leader.
Professor Walker is currently Deputy Director at the Glasgow School of Art, and it is expected that his move to the University of Salford will drive the School of Art & Design forward.
Professor Walker is committed to promoting an international higher education agenda, and developing collaborative initiatives to advance arts education. He says, "There cannot be a more exciting time to join Salford. There is a dynamic force behind the University and, in the advent of its move to MediaCityUK, I am committed to realising the potential for the School of Art & Design as an international centre of creative education. I am looking forward to leading the School of Art & Design's contribution to the creative economy and building on its existing successes."
Professor Martin Hall, the Vice-Chancellor at the University of Salford, says, "Allan brings with him a distinguished record of academic leadership and a level of dynamism which will realise the full potential of the School of Art & Design at this exciting stage of our University Transformation. I am very pleased to welcome him to Salford."
Professor Walker will be joining the University of Salford in November 2011, subject to completion of the usual formalities.
