Research topices include for evolution: molecular evolution and adaptation of whole genomes; phylogenetic research in plants and animals; behavioural ecology and life history evolution; molecular taxonomy, particularly in plants; evolutionary developmental genetics and systematics; the relationship between evolutionary and geographical patterns; evolution of island and Mediterranean-type floras; ecology: ecotoxicology; ecotoxicogenomic and population dynamics; pesticide resistance in insects, plants and vertebrates; management of wild mammal and bird populations for conservation or control; genetic population structure and adaptive variation to climate change; restoration and plant community ecology; population dynamics of plants, insects and birds; behavioural ecology and sociobiology of mammals; urban biodiversity: birds, mammals, freshwater and terrestrial insects and plants; symbiosis between plants and other organisms; trophic interactions between insects, plants and fungi; forensic acarology and entomology; host-parasite interactions and predator-prey dynamics; insect ecology (mosquitoes, wasps, aphids, stored product beetles); crop security: perennial crop research including temperate fruit crops (e.g. apple, pear, strawberry, raspberry) and tropical crops (in particular cocoa); genetic, physiological and agronomic aspects of flowering and fruiting in these crops; research on the genetic and environmental control of crop development and yield; plant biotechnology and bioinformatics for crop breeding, including tissue culture and genetic transformation; plant disease epidemiology and ecology; foliar disease forecasting and dynamics in natural and agricultural ecosystems; spatial pattern and dispersal of pathogens; integrated pest management, weed and pathogen interactions with crop plants.
